NUISANCE FEE:
It has become increasingly difficult to collect fees after registration. In the past, too many checks that are "in the mail" have not arrived and then only arrived after repeated notices. Therefore, as an incentive to have fees in at the deadline, we have instituted a nuisance fee for checks that arrive after registration. Ten percent of the school's total fee for registration, hired judges, and meal tickets will be assessed and invoiced. For example, a $100 registration would incur a $10 nuisance fee; $200 would incur $20 etc. We regret having to institute this fee but we hope you understand why it has become necessary. It is our hope that all fees will be turned in at registration and that no nuisance fees will need to be assessed. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this matter.
JUDGING: We do not flight rounds. This allows us to streamline our schedule and provide a better judging schedule. Therefore, each school must provide one qualified judge for every two LD debaters in each division, or portion thereof. For example, if you have two novice debaters, you will need one judge at Eastview High School. However, if you have only one novice debater and one junior varsity debater, you would need one judge at each building for a total of two judges. Logistically, one judge could not be scheduled into two buildings to cover those two debaters. The tournament also reserves the right to move judges between divisions to ease scheduling constraints.
Judges are obligated to judge one round beyond the elimination of all students from the school in question. If judging obligations are not met, the tournament reserves the right to remove a school's entries to balance the student-judge ratio. This includes cases where judges are missing the first round on Friday or Saturday. Debaters may be reentered into the schedule but with losses for the missed rounds.
Additionally, because the judge pool is integral to the efficiency and quality of the tournament, a 'chaos control' fee of $30.00 will be assessed per missed round per judge. This fee must be paid by the end of the tournament. This fee is typically assessed on rounds one and five. We have a VERY limited number of hired judges. The fee for a two-day judge is $175.00. These are strictly reserved for out-of-state competitors. Requests are not guaranteed until confirmed.
LOCATIONS AND REGISTRATION: Varsity and Junior Varsity registration and rounds will take place at Apple Valley Senior High School. Novice registration and rounds will be held at Eastview High School. Please see the "Maps and Directions" page for more details. The schools are about 10 minutes apart. It is critical to the tournament that all of your debaters and judges are at their designated location for the first round each day. T-SHIRTS: Special tournament t-shirts will be on sale for $15.00 at the concessions. Check them out. If you like "Hard Core Debate," you'll want a Minneapple T-Shirt. On the day of the tournament, all changes in registration must be called directly into the tab room before you arrive at the tournament site. The tab room number is (952) 431-8251.
